Schungite in Nature

Karjala schungites rest in the most ancient part of the earth crust, the age of which is over 2 billion years, i.e. from the period when the earth had no organic life in the contemporary meaning. The actual origin of schungites is unknown up to now. According to one hypothesis schungites are the remains of planet Faeton, having existed in our solar system. The high content of fullerenes in them enables to guess their cosmic origin. The similar extraterrestrial fullerenes have been found in meteorites. The fact that the Nobel Prize was awarded to the group of English scientists in 1996 indicates the importance of discovering of fullerenes.

Today the use of artificially synthesized fullerenes is limited due to the especially high cost, thus these are mainly used in the sectors of high technology: in space, medicine, computers.

The discovery of natural fullerenes in Karjala schungite turned out to be a real sensation. This is the only deposit in the world.

For the time being fullerenes have been found among natural minerals only in schungite and by this the impact of the rock in mitigating several diseases and preservation of freshness of the body is explained.
